10 Things Basic Girls Love (And Rightfully So)

Autumn's here, and so are the Basics.

10 Things Basic Girls Love (And Rightfully So)

Some of us have been there. We've been called "basic" or done things that may deem us to be "basic" (and that's OK). There are some great things that "basic girls" love. Here's my list of those things.

1. Chipotle

Let's be real here, we all know the no. 1 thing people think "basic girls" love is Chipotle. And NOTHING is wrong with that. There's nothing I love more than Chipotle guacamole. The way to my heart is through Chipotle.

2. Uggs

Honestly, Uggs are the comfiest pair of shoes in the entire world. Yes, they may not be the most attractive, but they're useful. They keep your feet warm in the dead of winter, and honestly, having one pair isn't enough.

3. Forever 21

For basic college or high school girls at least, Forever 21 is the place to go when you need clothes. When school is expensive, Forever 21 is cheap. It's the cost effective way to get some much needed retail therapy.

4. Starbucks/Dunkin Donuts

Could I really go through this list without bringing up Starbs or Dunkin (or saying their nicknames)? Probably not. While it's not time to begin the Starbucks vs. Dunkin Donuts debate, a "basic girl" probably has some type of coffee in her hand. There's nothing wrong with that either. Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts are there to taste great and keep us "basics" caffeinated.

5. Taylor Swift

Taylor's been there for us when no one else has been. What girl didn't dedicate "Teardrops on My Guitar" to a boy that they "loved" when they were younger? I know I (regretfully) did. And now we can't listen to that song because it reminds us of that stupid boy (who probably amounted to nothing). Taylor is the reliable friend that might not always be present. She knows what you're going through, she can relate and she can talk you through your issues.

6. "Pretty Little Liars"

Honestly, what basic girl isn't itching to see what happened to our five favorite liars when the new season starts? Now we know who A is and can't wait to find out everything else that's going on. PLL is great, and we can all bond on our love of all the Liars' boyfriends and get into heated debates about which one is better.

7. October-December

We're here! These months are Basic Season. It's time to pull out those boots, leggings, leg warmers, vests and scarves because we are here. We're taking trips to orchards and wineries (and we're happy as heck about it). We've got our pumpkin spice candles burning and our peppermint drinks in hand. When it's Halloween, we'll put on our bunny or cat ears (with a Forever 21 dress, probably) and head out to a party. We've been waiting on this all year, and it's AMAZING.

8. Selfies/Broadcasting Everything on Social Media

We selfie for everything (and we know our angles). We don't feel like we attended an event unless we post about it on social media. And like everything else that's "basic," there's nothing wrong with that. It makes us feel good; it makes something feel "official." Everyone else does it, so we should be able to do it too without feeling any shame.

9. Netflix

What "basic girl" didn't fall in love with Jax Teller, Lucas and Nathan Scott, Chuck Bass, Jess Mariano (or all of the above) because of Netflix? Netflix lets us live out our romantic fantasies and nightmares without actually living them. And, we can rewind and watch everything over and over.

10. Saying That We're Not Basic

All of my friends have probably lost count of the amount of times I've called myself a "bad girl" instead of a basic one. We love all of these nine other things, but we also love saying that we're not basic. It makes us feel unique, it makes us happy, and there's nothing wrong with that.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
