10 Songs You NEED On Your College Playlist
Stocksnap

As colleges across the country finish moving their students in and everyone starts to settle into their new everyday routine, we are all faced with the same challenges: being away from home and friends, finding who they are, trying to find the perfect work/life balance, and so much more. As you enter into a new chapter of your life, here is a playlist that may help better explain, or help, you through these feelings.

1. Day One Matthew West

This boppin' "pop rock" tune is all about tomorrow being a brand new day and you can do whatever you want to do with it. When your in the process of making new friends in college, none of them know who you are. They don't know your past, they don't know what your status was in high school -- so in a way, you can choose to reinvent yourself your freshman year. It's day one of the rest of your life.

2. Marry the Night Lady Gaga

Gaga wrote this when she was climbing her way through the music industry and committing herself to her dreams. You may find some inspiration as you make your commitment to your major in order for you to chase your dreams.

3. Time of Your Life (Good Riddance) Green Day

A bittersweet song that perfectly captures the essence of you and your friends going own separate ways. "I hope you have the time of your life."

4. The Shindig (Off to College) FM Static

This song is all about the one last get together of you and your pals-simply just doing whatever it is you and your friends do for one last run before you all go your separate ways.

5. Long Live For King & Country

No matter how unqualified you may feel, if not you will at some point in the upcoming semesters, this song is for those who need a pick me up and encourages that no matter what you can do all things. Go ahead take those risks, don't be afraid to make moments, and even "with two left feet, keep on dancing".

6. American Noise Skillet

As we go off to college, we each have our own dreams and our own vision to make this world a better place. This song serves as an inspiration for your freshman year for it is all about how you have a purpose and you can make a difference. No matter if you're going to be an accountant or a neurosurgeon-you will make an impact.

7. Be Good to Yourself Journey

Throughout college, you're going to have days or weeks where you feel like giving up, where you feel like you cannot do this, but do not fret Journey is here to remind you that no matter how hard it gets, you have to be your own advocate and simply be good to yourself. During those times remember to take a step back and de-stress and detox - so yeah go ahead and treat yourself to that extra Netflix episode.

8. Nothin' But a Good Time Poison

We're going to kick it back to old school with this hair band anthem. This song is all about being broke and working all the time to make ends meet, but needing time to break out and have a good time.

9. Wide Open Spaces Dixie Chicks

College is the first time you get to live on your own and figure out who you truly are. This classic country jam is all about a girl leaving home for the first time and finding yourself.

10. College Kids Relient K

Once you listen to it, you'll understand.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
