Summer is a time of frolicking, sleeping late, staying up later, spontaneity and all things relaxing, glorious, and sans-responsibility. But not for you. You are taking that time -- free from classes and homework -- to pick up some extra shifts or (if you're one of the lucky few who don't work during the semester) start a new job for the summer. It seems like all of your friends are sitting ocean-side or getting adrenaline rushes at amusement parks, but you're on that grind. Yes, this summer, you are working.
1. When you are trying to be positive on this beautiful summer day where you're forced to stay inside, and everyone who comes in is being rude.
Working with people can be tough, and the summer heat makes people feisty.
2. When you get called in to work extra, and you have to act like you're totally cool with it.
As if it's not hard enough to come in for your scheduled time.
3. Even though you already had plans.
Those didn't matter, right? Wrong.
4. When you think your shift is almost over, but you look at the clock and realize you've only been there an hour.
One work hour is like six free time hours.
5. When you've been working so long, nothing makes sense anymore.
Your brain basically becomes goo.
6. When you see a coworker outside of work, but you're just trying to not think about work
It's nothing personal, you just need that boundary for your own sanity.
7. When your friends call you to hang out, because they're footloose and fancy free, but you have to work.
You're not helping, guys.
8. When you want to find a way to take your work outside, and your boss says no...again.
But wouldn't it increase your productivity?
9. When you realize it's harder to go to work in the summer than it is to get up for class in the semester.
8 a.m.'s on Monday now seem heavenly.
10. In fact, you know you'd much rather be in class than working.
Please, assign me a reading and teach me things. Just please don't make me do work anymore.
11. When it's finally time to leave, and you're free for the weekend.
So, if you're struggling through a job this summer, you can do it! It will all be worth it when you have a little extra spending money this fall.
