Whether it is for something to do over the summer or maybe even an attempt at a more nontraditional job choice, being a temporary employee means a lot of things that range from fun to terrible. Though through it all, I would recommend being a temp to anyone who is interested in working or is interested in trying out different jobs they may have never thought of going for on their own. The temp world is an endless playground for an opportunity!
Being a temp has a lot to offer in many different ways. First off, it gives the chance to work many different jobs that you may have never done before. Depending on your area, this could range from different factory or warehouse jobs to even things like catering, housekeeping or sales. On top of that, there is almost no commitment towards these places you work, so if you are someone who likes to move from job to job or does not enjoy sitting in the same office all day, temping could be an amazing option. Also, since you work as a temp and you move from place to place so much, it gives a good playground for meeting a wide range of new people. Since when you are normally working for a temp agency, they are normally bigger companies so they will sometimes supply things like bagels on Monday morning or pizza on Fridays. Just a few added little bonuses to being able to work non-committal jobs.
Now there are also some not so great things about being involved with a temp agency. For starters, god forbid you actually really like a job and you want to stay. Well normally the assignments don’t last longer than a few months, so eventually, you’ll be asked to leave. Same concept goes with meeting people, you make friends quickly and start to form bonds that sometimes get torn away once your assignment is done. Not only that but because you’re at the will of other companies needing your hands for work, if there are slow seasons during the year, work could be far and few between, making it difficult to maintain things such a bills or even paying off loans. Other than that, the only negative to working as a temp would be the stigma that comes with it. People sometimes view you as not hard working or even as lazy. However, this is normally easy to get past once you’re biting down on a pizza from the company on Friday.
Though every agency is different and everyone takes the experiences in their own ways, I would like to believe that this is a good foreground for the average experience of working for a temp agency. It comes with a different hand full of both good and bad just as any normal job would, but it is something most people would never consider trying. Who knows, maybe working for a temp agency is just what you need in your life!
