In nature it’s the norm for the female species to grow much bigger and stronger than the males. Female spotted hyenas are larger and more aggressive than the males, and the lowest ranking female in a clan still out ranks the highest ranking male. It’s not a secret that women like to gossip and whine and there are too many incorrect female stereotypes to count, but when we as women feed into these stereotypes we forget our community. Some outstanding qoutes and advice from the female community can help us re-evaluate how we should treat each other.

“Girls compete with each other. Women empower each other.”

Over 50% of the world is made up of people who deal with the same daily struggles as you, why not take advantage of that! Other women are the most likely to have been through the same situation as you. Instead of thinking of other women as our competition, we can empower each other and learn.

Be authentic

When we see each other on the street, don’t just give a passer-by “how are you?” take the time to see how everything is going in their lives. That extra effort is what can bring all females together. Being able to talk about the daily problems of being a girl creates connections and validates feelings no matter how small they are.

Cut the gossip

When us women talk badly about each other it just gives everyone else the right to talk about us as well. Using sl*t and wh*re makes it seem like an acceptable word, which is obviously not the truth. We never know what other women are going through, so judging and gossiping about them won’t help anything. Chances are, we’ll end up going through something similar eventually and understand why they acted how they did.

Compliment each other!

When we see other women and envy their fashion or their hair, say something! We all know how much compliments can make a horrible day immensely better. Positivity is the easiest way to start a change.

Speak Up

Don’t be afraid to be proud of being a woman. I know I say “sorry” way too much, even when it wasn’t something I did. Don’t feel any less because of the biological parts you’re born with, and it’s so common for women to think they need to be fragile and timid. If that’s your personality then don’t be afraid to keep to yourself, but never hold yourself back from something just because of your gender.

Being a women is a powerful thing, and it’s definitely something I don’t take advantage of. Start teaching about the successes of women at an early age and never stop. Women have done so many amazing things for our history and it’s proven we’re stronger in numbers. Empowering each other can help future generations to come, as well as women in other countries that might not have the same rights as us. Making the active choice everyday to love -- and not hate -- can help in more ways then we’ll ever see.

beer on the beach

Bruce Springsteen's Top 7 Lyrics

Everything Bruce says in his classic rock songs.

20157
bruce springsteen album cover born in the usa

Anyone who was born and raised in New Jersey (or anywhere really) knows of Bruce Springsteen, whether or not they like him is a whole other situation. I hope that his hundreds of classic rock songs and famous high energy performances, even in his sixties he can put on better concerts than people half his age, are at least recognizable to people of all ages. Love him or hate him (I identify with the former) you have to admit that some of his songs and interviews have inspirational quotes and lyrics.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

4586
Marconi Beach

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.

You cannot beat the beach. Believe it or not (which many people may not), New England has a long and beautiful coastline. Most of my high school summers were spent sitting on the Wall at Hampton Beach, getting sunburnt and eating Acai bowls from The Secret Spot. The Wall was the place to be both during the day and at night. We begin our days there with a KB's bagel and coffee, and end them with pizza and ice cream. It’s not a New England summer without that 4 p.m. text from someone, “Who wants to meet at the Wall tonight?” Nighttime is for Tripoli’s Pizza, the sound of waves, and wishes on shooting stars. Wednesday nights are especially important, as those are the nights that Hampton Beach sets off the weekly firework display.
