As a college student, it is appalling how many people are unaware about sex. They are unaware about how their reproductive systems work. They are uneducated about how their partners systems work. They don't know about the options that are out there in terms of contraceptives. They don't understand how important it is to protect themselves against STDs.
I understand that some parents refuse to teach their kids about sex or have their school teach them. But eventually, there is going to come a time in that child's life where they need to know this information. They need to know how to protect themselves.
I've seen people become social outcasts because they don't understand the importance of sex education. I was fortunate enough to where my parents not only taught me about sex, but my school did as well.
Information we need to start teaching:
- What to do if someone, or yourself, has been raped.
- How to protect yourself against, or your partner, from getting pregnant.
- Signs to look for in abusive relationships.
- Information on different contraceptives.
- Abortion.
- How to prevent from catching any STDs.
- How men and women's reproductive systems work.
- Signs to look for when your partner is lying to you about ways you "won't" get pregnant.
