It is November already, and it happens to be an election year. It is not the big Presidential election, but this mid-term election is
still important. As President Obama’s second term comes to a midpoint, we see a
shift in the Senate and Congress starting to occur. This is completely normal
in our bi-partisan, democratic government. Here are some reasons you should not
vote on November 4th.
You could care less.
For some reason, you don’t think that freedom matters. You
take for granted the independence that our forefathers fought for hundreds of
years ago and our soldiers fight for today. There are countries currently
fighting for the independence that Americans have, so they can do things like
vote. But you don’t care.
Your vote doesn’t matter.
You are one person out of thousands eligible to vote. Even
less will actually vote on Tuesday. Your one vote will not decide the
winner of any election. You might find this okay if you don’t care. You might also find this okay if you are fine with how our government
is currently run, and you have zero problems with any new laws or proposals
that come out of D.C. By the way, the mid-term elections are some of the
closest races.
You don’t like any of the candidates.
These just are not your type of people running. You don’t
like any of their ideas, and you don’t think that any of them will do a good
job. You are okay with waiting another couple of years for a different
candidate. You probably won’t agree with everything they want to do, either. Oh, well, one day there will be a perfect candidate who never messes up.
Nothing on the ballot effects you, you are in college.
The only thing you care about is tuition, bar tabs, and Ramen Noodles. There is no way anything that you could vote for will affect you in any way. Although, you may be graduating soon, which means you might have to start paying for health insurance; or the state could change a policy that raises your tuition. No big deal. The midterm elections are arguably the most important elections for a state. These candidates are running to represent your state in D.C. and make sure that the things that we care about and the policies we want can be heard. If you are okay with not being heard, you are apathetic, or you just do not care about our freedom to vote, then don’t. If you do not fit into that mold, I will see you at the polls this Tuesday.
