The arrival of the new year is often a fresh start for most with a popular new years resolution being an attempt at a new workout routine. Although the amount of cars in the gym parking lot will dissipate by mid-March, the ongoing body trends will never vanish from society.
Being fairly small, I've never seemed to have an issue with my body. But with the recent trend of being "slim-thick", I’ve found myself becoming increasingly more insecure with my lack of curves. After putting in countless hours at the gym attempting to build muscle, I’ve come to realize that the only possible way for me to ever achieve those “slim-thick” curves is with plastic surgery. My genes simply don’t allow me to have the body type that everybody seems to be craving at the moment, but you know what? That’s okay.
The sad truth is that women pay thousands to achieve an artificial version of themselves that will only be popular for a hot minute.
So why do we mindlessly idolize Kylie Jenner for her silicone body parts?
If you strip away the silicone and fat injections, the result you're left with will be an average human being. The fact that these Instagram models mask their true identities to achieve a respectable amount of "likes" is truly saddening.
While the average Joe spends a majority of their time at work or school, these models are being paid to receive likes on social media platforms because it's their job. They make a living by being attractive, and will pay any amount of money to obtain the look that is currently "in" because their career depends upon it.
The same is true for fitness models. These individuals spend hours at the gym to maintain their looks because that's how they pay their bills. The rest of us don't have a surplus of time to be spent at the gym, because we're busy living our lives.
Its true that beauty has lost its meaning throughout the years. A person's beauty should simply be admired, not copied. If everybody looked the same, there would be no beauty left in the world.
Whether you believe in a creator, evolution, or aliens, all humans were not meant to look the same. We all differ in physical beauty for a reason, or else everybody would be a copy of each other.
If every flower was a red rose, roses wouldn't be as beautiful as they are. So why are we all trying to be that red rose?
Kylie Jenner may be admired for her plastic beauty, but in reality, we should not attempt to imitate everything we see. Although her looks are aesthetically pleasing, they are not real, and shouldn't be idolized or mimicked.
So if you don't look like Kylie Jenner or Alexis Ren, that doesn't mean you aren't a beautiful person, it simply means that you don't look like Kylie Jenner or Alexis Ren. You look like yourself, which was how nature intended things to pan out.
The next time you're scrolling through Instagram and come across one of these individuals, don't waste precious time and energy beating yourself up about how you don't look like them.
Instead, focus on being the best version of yourself as possible because that is where the true beauty exists.
