Why I Enlisted In #RihannaNavy

Most people who are familiar with the singer Rihanna, make assumptions on what she's all about based on how she is reflected in the media. Rihanna was actually born Robyn Rihanna Fenty to two parents, an accountant, and a warehouse supervisor, in a parish of Barbados called St. Michael. Rihanna was 16 years old when her life changed forever. A friend of hers introduced her to producer Evan Rodgers, who flew her to New York to meet Jay-Z, and was soon after signed to Def Jam Records. Like many singers, Rihanna has a name for her faithful followers, like me, called Rihanna-Navy. From the start, this island beauty captivated the world with her Caribbean style and reggae beat bangers. I was memorized throughout the entire process these are some of the many reasons why I am forever enlisted in #RihannaNavy.

She's a rockstar. From the way she dresses to all of her outlandish tattoos, this Barbados babe's free-spirited nature is on display for the world to see. Unfortunately, everyone doesn't understand the infant-like carelessness that Rihanna exhibits and that is completely fine, you're probably just jealous. This is a woman who is unapologetic to the world about who she is, and what she likes. I think that we should all aspire to reach that level of self-confidence.

She's unique. As if her island roots weren't already enough to make her stand out from your average pop singer. Rihanna creates this one of a kind sound, the kind that makes you ask "who is this?" when you hear it on the radio. Regardless of what she's singing, you want to hear it again and again. Her physical appearance is also very unique. She's a twig of a woman, with barely any boobs or booty, and she has this brick of a forehead. Many of you may have chuckled as you read that, but make no mistake, these are all of the things I love about Rihanna. She doesn't need any implants or injections to make herself feel beautiful or sexy. Rihanna is a subtle reminder that everyone has their flaws, but that's what makes you, you.

She's versatile. Rihanna can slay any song in any genre. Whether it's pop, R&B, or reggae, you can always count on Rihanna to make your heart sing and your body move. Since Rihanna came on the scene with "Pon De Replay," we've seen her go from a kid with catchy tunes, to a serious artists with some serious accomplishments too. The best part is that she's still just as humble and fun-loving as when she got in the game.

Rihanna is only a few years older than me, so I can truthfully say that I grew up with her. This may be my fanatic side speaking, but I feel like I've been with Rihanna throughout the progression of her career. I admire the fact that she's a fighter and takes the good and bad of life with a grain of salt. Honestly, I don't think she's "a good girl gone bad," I just think that she's a good girl whose all grown up.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
