On April 14th, 2017, ‘The Fast and the Furious’ saga releases its eighth movie in the series, ‘The Fate of the Furious’. Normally, I would be ecstatic that a new Fast and Furious is coming out. This time however, I feel a bit let down. It’s a great series but it’s been milked for more than it’s worth. Sorry guys, I think it’s time to let it go.
My number one thing I already dislike about this movie is that Dom (Vin Diesel) is made out to be the bad guy. Trailers of the movie hint at it being mind control, but it just doesn’t work. You can’t take the character that’s been the head protagonist for the entire seven movie series and then flip his loyalty. Unless the movie has a very good explanation for it, it goes completely against Dom’s persona to not only become the bad guy, but betray his “family”, mind control or not. The other thing that rubs me the wrong way about this movie is that the action sequences are so beyond believable, I’m afraid it will make it unwatchable. Yes, I know movie critics, Fast and Furious doesn’t get the Golden Globe for most realistic action scenes, but in the past they have been believable enough to where I can ignore it and continue enjoying the movie. You have Dom going rogue, Hobbs and Shaw breaking out of jail and the entire team outracing a submarine breaking through the ice. Will the cars fly next movie? Wait, they already did that. C’mon now.
So to the creators of the series, you made an amazing that sit in the hearts of millions to this day. You made a beautiful seventh movie paying homage to Paul Walker and it would’ve made a respected close to the series. This is taking it too far, so I ask that you let it go gracefully and please leave it be.
