It is human nature to compare ourselves. Whether we are comparing our looks, our achievements, or whichever weakness is picking at us that day. You look at that girl's body and envy in its purest form pours out of you. You can't help it, but you let the jealousy consume you and start to let your opinion of your self-image decline.
We have all been there. Growing up in a technologically advanced and fast-paced world can tend to feel a bit overwhelming. We can so easily let the negative things consume us until we start to believe that maybe we are not good enough for that position, pretty enough to be with that person, or whatever demon gets loose in our minds. But that's just it, we all have demons. We all need help, and we all need to be built up by each other.
It is easier than it is hard to get caught up in these negative issues and allow them to absolutely change how we view ourselves, or maybe how we even act. The solution to this is perspective and a whole lot of Jesus.
Perspective is key. Will it really matter ten years from now that the cute boy from biology class never asked you out? Will that extra five pounds that you gained really affect you when you look back on your life in its entirety? If we just realize the importance of living our life to the fullest and not letting these demons consume us and depict how we live, we would all be happier people. This is all much easier said than done, but if we build each other up instead of comparing every aspect of ourselves to someone else, we won't let comparison steal our joy anymore.
You are you for a reason. Your freckles, your weirdly shaped birth marks, your frizzy hair makes you, simply you. You are beautiful, and you are so worthy of a happy life. Make today the day that you stop letting comparison rip away your joy. Live in the present. Smell the roses as they say, or whatever floats your boat. You've got one life, and it does not need to be spent wishing away all the beautiful things that make you uniquely you.
