1: You Chose Each Other
It is said that you can't choose your family, but that is not always the case. Throughout the Big/Little selection process, you are not only choosing a close friend, but also a sister. Your Big is someone who is similar to you, someone who you can look up to, and someone who you will spend a lot of time with. Moreover, your Big is someone who you will grow to trust and cherish, so choose carefully. :)
2: Older and Wiser
College can be lonely and scary at times, but your Big can help to ease the burden of whatever struggles come your way. Having a Big is like having an older sister on campus to "show you the ropes." From tough classes, to boy troubles, and everything in between, your Big is someone who you can always go to for advice and comfort. In many cases, she has been in your shoes before, and will be able to help you navigate the unpredictable, chaotic world that is college.
3: Inside Jokes
Your Big just gets you, and you get her. You have too many inside jokes and funny memories to count, and there is never a dull moment when you are together. Your Big knows your most embarrassing (and hilarious) secrets, and knows exactly how to make fun of you without ever being mean. She also knows how to use laughter to cheer you up, even on the worst of days.
4: Always on Your Side
During college, many people will walk in and out of your life. Friendships will end, and boys will break your heart, but your Big is here to stay. She will defend you when others won't, listen when you need to cry about boys, and treat you not only as a friend, but also as a sister. Your Big is also your biggest cheerleader, and will never fail to shout "That's my Little!!!!" when you accomplish something new or exciting.
5: Gifts on Gifts
Your Big spoils you rotten. From t-shirts, to canvases, to secret notes, she always reminds you that you are loved and special to her. These gifts may seem silly to some people, but looking up to see hand-painted canvases hanging on your wall is a perfect pick-me-up when you are having a bad day.
6: Sets the Bar High
Lastly, aside from being your friend and sister, your Big is also your role model. She is someone who you can admire, confide in, and learn from. Beyond teaching you how to survive college, your Big also teaches you the important lesson of how to be a great Big for someone else in the future. Her actions toward you set the tone for the relationship between you, the girl who will someday become your Little, and that lucky girl's oh-so-amazing Grand-Big.
Love You Emma!
