Where is happiness found?

Don't look to others; look inside.

Where is happiness found?

Happiness. What makes you happy? The common answers are like puppies, food, flowers, or video games. These things makes some folks out there happy, but the problem is the happiness you receive from puppies doesn’t last. Eventually, you become lonely again or once you defeat that video game your happiness has left.

Most of us find happiness in things, like for me sunshine, Netflix, and shopping makes me happy, but those things won’t always satisfy me. I can’t carry flowers everywhere I go, every season or movie has to come to an end, and I don’t have an unlimited amount of money to blow.

So, when we stop finding enjoyment in these things, what do we do then?

Well, the majority of us have tried to find happiness in a person. While having friends and enjoying their company isn’t a bad thing, being completely dependent on them to make you happy is not a good thing. Like most people I LOVE my friends. If I could just spend every day with them I would. But if I was to come to a point where I only enjoyed my life when I was with them or if my happiness depended on their presence, I have lost my self and the meaning of happiness.

Example: In high school I dated this guy; he was first boyfriend so I didn’t know what I was doing. We became infatuated with each other and pretty soon it got to this point where he depended on me for happiness, Awe sweet right? NO. I should not be the only source of happiness in a person’s life and vice versa. I have been the one to provide happiness for others and the one who was dependent on someone else for happiness.

Am I the only one has experienced this? Take this past summer for instance, I spent every single day with my best friend and began to depend on him for enjoyment. Well, school started back and he went back to A State and I went back to CBC. Now that we are apart I began to realize that I am very dependent on him for my happiness. Did I mean to get this way? NO! So, what do I do now?

Now, I have to come to a point where I am content or happy with my self and how God created me to be. That is a tall order, I am nowhere near perfect but God created me in his image. Not only that, He provides me with little things every day that help me to remember to be my own person and let Him drive my happiness.

What’s the point in all this? I just wanted to remind everyone to be their own happiness. Don’t get me wrong you should find enjoyment in others and activities but those shouldn’t be the main source of your happiness. You should be content with yourself and create your own happiness thru God's guidance.

Here’s just a quick little way to get back on the happy train.

Step one: realize you should find happiness in yourself and be content with the life God gave you.

Step two: Pray about it! Ask God to help you find happiness in yourself.

Step three: Enjoy the little things that life has to offer. Contentment is key!

Step four: Be aware of what you find enjoyment in, don’t seclude yourself to one person or one thing.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
