For those who do not know, a Pi Chi is someone who leads Potential New Members (PNMs) through recruitment. Not only do they have to know the ins and outs of recruitment, but they also have to “disaffiliate” from your sorority for a semester. *tears roll down face*
Stage 1: Despair
Your big is the person who helps you get through all of the processes that are new to you in a sorority. Recruitment is a pretty big deal, probably the biggest of deals for a sorority. So, when I found out my big wasn’t going to be there to guide me through this one, I pretty much hyperventilated.
Stage 2: Denial
So it's the fall semester and spring recruitment is so far away, right? Wrong. Winter break came and went practically as fast as the gaucho trend. And when your big is a Pi Chi, that means no social media with them until after recruitment, which is FOR-EV-ER. Seriously, I dare you to try and not post a cute sorority picture with your big during recruitment. It is very hard.
Stage 3: Pride
It's the first round of recruitment and your big walks through your doors with her baby PNMs. She looks like a mother goose leading her goslings. Your heart fills with pride because you know she is probably just the best Pi Chi ever. I mean, how could she not be? She is the best big ever.
Stage 4: Excitement
As the PNMs get distracted in the front room talking to your sisters, you and your big sneak into the kitchen to eat some yummy snacks and chat about all of the amazing things you both have done the past two days. You also realize that she literally could not be more amazing for standing out in the freezing cold. All for the greater good.
Stage 6: Alleviation
Finally the day has come. Bid day is here and not only do you get to welcome new members into your life but your big has returned to her rightful home. Her Pi Chi-ing duties are over and you finally get to post a bid day picture on Instagram.
Now the only thing we have to worry about is finding me a little. EXPAND THE FAM 2016.
