As Veteran's Day approaches, many people do not realize the impact these ladies and gentleman have made, not only on our country but on all of our lives. These individuals not only served, whether it be in war or protecting our land, but they served a purpose. They were men and women risking their own lives to defend ours. They spent months away from home leaving behind loved ones and knew it would all be for the better. They missed births of their children and milestones that they only relive through pictures. They missed the Thanksgiving turkey and the Christmas brunch. They missed out on memories and laughs only to be shared at another time. When they came home with their head held high, they knew what to expect. Loved ones screamed and loved ones cried but only to know they were finally home.
While away he never knew how much his first born son would grow in just eight short weeks. Her being a "single" mom for almost two months felt like an eternity. She felt hopeless at times but always remained positive to know he would come into her arms soon enough. He knew she was strong and knew she was a fighter but he didn't expect her to be such a mess. Her son was so innocent and fragile- she knew she had to brave it out for him. When the day finally came, he nearly hopped off the ship because he knew his tiny family was going to do big things. He ran into their arms, tears in his eyes knowing he was finally home. As he held her in his arms he kissed her on the head and said, "I'm home, I'm finally home." The next few months he had to adjust. He was no longer a soldier, but a veteran of The United States Navy. He would have sleepless nights and sounds of the ship going throughout his head. She worried for him but little did she know this would all pass. He grew stronger and equipped to the civilian lifestyle and before he knew it, his family of three was about to grow. This navy man knew what was best for his loved ones and decided to stay home so he didn't have to miss another moment. He finally had a little girl to call his own and he knew she was already going to be daddy's little girl. As time went on and his children got older he would tell stories of his navy days. He spoke of the courageous men and women he shared a cabin with for eight months. He told stories of Dear John's and how he would often have to jump ship to save them. He explained to his loved ones why the only reason he was gone was to protect them. He honored his country and his family and he did what was asked of him. He put his life before his families, knowing that he would return home soon.
Veterans: your bravery and courage will never be dismissed. You stood up when no one else did, and for that, we dedicate this day to you. You have returned home and are forever in our arms. We owe this life to you. Thank you, Vets and thank you, Dad.
