When I told people that I was going to school in rural Ohio, a part of me died a little bit knowing I would voluntarily be in the middle of nowhere and live very far from the nearest Target. The closest major city with buildings higher than three stories (not including a basement) is Cincinnati, but I had never spent much time in Cincinnati, or Ohio for that matter, and all I knew is that the city has chili. When some of my friends started snapchatting their new lives in New York City and Boston I was determined to find a place just as awesome/trendy/insta-worthy in my neck of the Midwest. Since moving to Ohio, I've spent several weekends roaming the streets of Over-the-Rhine and hitting up my favorite free art museum maybe ever. Here is a short anthology of places you should seek out too, especially if you want to make your friends jealous of your adventures.
1. Bakersfield, OTR
The best damn tacos I have ever had. The menu is simple. The food is not. The guac is homemade, and they have this amazing smokey salsa that I could actually just drink by the gallon because it is so good. They have other food besides tacos, but GET THE TACOS.
2. Holtman's Donuts
If you click on this link and tell me you aren't salivating, you are not human, my friend. If donuts aren't your thing, there's a juice bar down the street, but you should make donuts your thing just to experience the fried doughy heaven that is Holtman's.
3. Off The Vine
So after you eat the donut, head over to Off The Vine for some cold pressed juice. Or purchase one of their cleanses to rid your body of all the wonderful, delicious greasy things you put in it. One green juice is like thirty minutes on the treadmill.
4. Cincinnati Art Museum
This museum is FREE. Nothing is free in this world!! But this place is!! They have an impressive collection and really great exhibitions. You can spend a lot of time here or a little (if you know what you want to see) and they have a really pretty scenic area too.
