What It's Like Having A Tall Boyfriend

The height difference definitely adds its own set of quirks.

A relationship is a relationship. All relationships have their own set of unique struggles. However, dating someone of a much greater height brings about a unique set of incidents, different from those of similar height couples.

1. You make him look even taller.

Somehow, as if it were even possible, you make him look even taller than he already is. On the flip side: you appear even shorter next to him.

2. His legs are almost as tall as you.

How could someone's legs really be that long? How do you find pants that long?

3. Sharing a car is a chore.

Do you think you can just pop right into the same car and drive away? Well, you can't. There's a whole series of mirror, steering wheel, and seat adjustments. After 15 minutes of doing all of that, you're fine to go. Jokes on him, though, if he has to drive your small car.

4. Good luck being heard.

The air must be thinner all the way up there, because you can't hear what he says and he can't hear what you said unless he bends down to your level or you practically scream what you're saying.

5. They are your shopping assistant.

Gone are the days where you had to over-extend your limbs to reach things at the grocery store or climb the shelves like Spiderman, because now you have your very own shopping assistant that can reach even the can shoved all the way to the back on the top shelf.

6. There's no comfortable hand holding position.

He just has to hang his arm down normally, but you have to bend your arm up at a weird angle that's not comfortable for anyone.

7. Dancing has to be strategic.

Forget any standing on feet, because no way shape or form is that going to assist in slow dancing un-awkwardly. You have to get good at picking and choosing fast-paced songs over slow ones in order to dance together.

8. He struggles visiting your family.

It's no surprise that your family is all around your size, meaning all your appliances, including shower heads, are aimed at people your size. Visiting your family may be the first time he will be too tall for the shower head.

9. You disappear in his clothes.

His sweatshirt probably swallows your entire body. Perfect for when you're cold, but not so perfect when you want to wear a sweatshirt outside.

10. Hugging looks odd from afar.

11. Your anger is more comical than it is intimidating to him.

What you see:

What he sees:

12. People are fascinated by the height difference.

People sometimes stare at you two and ask what it's like to have such a big height difference. It's really not that interesting. It's not like you're a giraffe and a turtle dating.

13. You are not a big spoon; you are a jetpack.

You can never really adequately cuddle someone as a big spoon if they're tall. You can try though, and in the process you'll be more of a jetpack than a big spoon.

14. He puts things on the tallest shelves.

Of course he puts everything out of reach. It's not like you can't reach it or anything. That's fine; you're just going to make him go over and grab it for you anyway.

15. You look good together.

Despite all the struggles and quirks, it's undeniable that you two look great together. So keep looking great and carry on.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
