What Is Most Important To Me

Some things that I can't live without.

What Is Most Important To Me
Billy Humphrey

What can’t you live without? Ranging from a favorite mug to a computer, everyone has some things that their lives would be incomplete without. What is important to you is what makes you incredibly unique. Everyone has different priorities and the things that are most special to them, and without them, none of us would be distinctive.

Our values, and what is important to our everyday lives make us who we are. Everyone has something different that they cannot live without under no circumstances, including me. Of course there are things not on this list that I can't imagine living without, like Ugg slippers and chocolate, but these five things are the first that came to mind. Making this list has made me even more grateful for everything that life has given me, and told me a little bit more about myself than I knew before.

1. Books

Words have been constant friends to me ever since I was little. A good story has always been able to comfort me and keep me company. I can become attache to a book, and to me it's the best kind of attachment. Reading a book is a commitment, and it's a commitment that I will always choose to make. Books mean something to me, and I'm proud of that. Without books, my life would be boring and lacking of all the adventure on story can bring.

2. My Brother

Being an older sister has taught me a lot of lessons. I have learned the importance of being a role model, how to be a patient person, how to appreciate more, and how to be loving and compassionate. While being an older sibling to a younger brother can be difficult and tedious at times, it has also been the best thing my parents have ever given me. I've learned so much from my brother, and I would not trade him for anything.

3. Coffee

My morning is not complete without coffee. I drink one cup in the morning, then take a travel mug full of it to school and usually have one more cup there. It's excessive, I know, but totally worth it and necessary. Coffee tastes good, and is relaxing. I don't know how I would live without coffee, and I don't ever want to find out. Cheers!

4. Music

I love music. It warms me, brings me closer to others, and helps me when I feel blue. A day does not go by where I don't rock out to at least one song, whether in the car or doing homework at my desk. It is a necessity in my everyday life, and for that, it is indispensable.

5. My Family

It's a cliché, but I really could not live without my family. They make me angry sometimes, yes, but they make me happy more. I have countless memories with them, none of which would be given up for anything in the world. We make fun of each other, and we laugh with each other, but most importantly we trust each other. I love all of my family, and they're what's most important to me.

I know it's not Thanksgiving yet, but what are you grateful for, and what is most important to you? Sometimes the simplest things can be the most significant!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
