In a season of being thankful, it can be therapeutic to take a wider view of my life and see what I am really thankful for. I live a very blessed life, and appreciating it is something that I don't often take the time to do. I get so caught up in the business of life; never ending homework, law school applications and extra curricular activities, that I overlook how great my life is.
I'm so thankful for my roommates.
These girls see me at my highs and my lows and never judge the amount of ice cream I consume. They each have their own individual personality, and bring so much laughter and joy to the table. I take pride in how well we get along, and how we can all work together to make a college apartment a home, and a safe place to come home too.
I'm forever thankful for the chance to get an education.
Unlike others, I get the chance to not only further my education, but complete a college experience. Not only that, but I get to go to a big, nationally recognized school. Knowledge is power, and being in a place that can push my boundaries is an exceptional joy. From college, I will get better access to some jobs, and walk out into the world knowing a little bit more of what is going on around me.
My family is so full of love, I'm very thankful for it.
Like any other family, we have definitely had our trials, but in the end, no one can make me laugh like my little brother, or feel as loved at my mom makes me feel. They are the ones I always want to go to first with good news, and they are the ones that I seek comfort in. If I didn't have a strong support system in place, there is no telling where I would be today.
I'm thankful for my non-biological sisters.
Joining a sorority on campus was a decision that I was very nervous about. I didn't know if I would fit in, let alone enjoy it. Now, I cannot imagine going an extended period of time without seeing or hearing from the sisters that I know the best. They are always down to get ice cream, see a movie, and rant about boys - what else could I ask for?
I'm not concerned where my next meal will come from, that is something to be thankful for.
When you look at the basics of my life, I live pretty comfortably. I never have to worry about going hungry, or not being able to afford groceries. Working with different organizations on campus (Campus Kitchen mainly) has shown me that hunger really is a problem that needs help. I am very grateful for the opportunity to help the cause, since I realize that I am so comfortable.
I'm forever thankful for the life I got to build in Blacksburg.
When I look back the last four years of my life at Virginia Tech, I can easily see that everything was meant to be. From the classes that I took, to the massive rainstorms I got caught in, there is no other life path that I wish I would have taken. My path has led me to great friendships, exciting adventures, and shown me who I really am and what I stand for.
This holiday season, I am proud to say that I am thankful for so much in my life. And a special thanks to all those people who I am blessed enough to call my friends - y'all rock!
