Some people love concerts. I, however, am not a very big concert person. Whether it's due to the mass of people, the inevitable heat from said people, or the fact that I prefer to geek out to my favorite bands in the privacy of my room, I'm just not crazy about going to concerts like some people. I do have to say that I love seeing Lecrae perform live, though. I saw him three years ago at a church in Jacksonville and then this past Friday, February 19, at Wheaton. Lecrae's music and energy are fun, but it's his message that I really love.
The big thing that Lecrae stresses is his motto "one-one-six." This is based off of Romans 1:16: "For I am unashamed of the gospel." As such, he stresses the idea of being unashamed, willing to wear your faith on your sleeve. During the concert, Lecrae paused to hit on some other helpful topics. The most memorable was when he stopped and talked about how we are in the perfect position to change the world. Most revolutions are championed by the 18-25 year old age group. As Lecrae so kindly pointed out, most college students don't have spouses, children, mortgages, or credit card debt... Mostly because we don't have money, but that's beside the point. We have very few things holding us back from being able to go and rally behind a cause.
Lecrae also talked about the importance of humility. He shared how he was extremely prideful and thought that he was God's gift to the world when he was younger. Until he learned the lesson of humility, he wasn't able to be the person he was created to be. Humility is not just something that you wake up with and have one morning. It's something you have to strive for and chase after. Once you have it, it's easy to lose, so you have to continually work for humility.
Lecrae is a very solid artist. But he's so much more than his music. I appreciate that he takes the time to pour into and connect with his fans. While concerts aren't usually my scene, I loved watching Lecrae live. Also add in the fact that Steph Curry danced at a Lecrae concert... perfection. Stay turnt.
