There are a lot of things out there that everyone does that have developed a bad name, including a lot of natural body processes that are deemed 'gross' or are expected to be hidden behind doors. While I don't disagree that these things can be gross, I everyone does them. If you don't, congratulations because you are in the minority. Here's a list of weird things that people do that really just aren't that weird.
Picking your wedgie in public.
While this may be something everyone does, no one likes to get caught doing it. But why? Especially when people when wear confining or small underwear (see: thongs) wedgies are absolutely going to happen. You expect me to just deal with the discomfort for the entire day? Because that's not gonna happen. I might try to escape to the bathroom to fix it in the privacy of the stall....But not every time. Sorry not sorry.
Taking baths
Okay, so maybe everyone doesn't do this. In fact, I know many people who don't enjoy baths very much. But if you, like me, love relaxing in a bath at the end of the day, especially on a cold winter night, you are not alone. Taking a bath is awesome and it feels great, so don't let anyone convince you it's weird. I missed them dearly when I lived in the dorms and now that I have my apartment, I never have to sacrifice my relaxing bath time. Oh, and people actually do read in the bathtub, too.
Farting/pooping (especially for girls)
Who decided that farting and pooping wasn't allowed? I mean, there are many people who frankly don't give a crap (pun intended) about the social stigma surrounding these bodily processes, but others feel incredibly confined by them. But as the famous children book proclaims, everybody poops (and farts). Oh, and especially if you're a girl, you know that this is even worse because of the whole idea that "girls don't poop." Where did that even come from?! Who thought that telling young boys that would be a good idea? I'm not saying you should just let one rip in the middle of a silent class, but maybe we shouldn't judge others so much if one accidentally happens.
Zoning out on somebody's face/body part
While most people are at least able to zone out somewhere in a room other than a person, others are not so lucky or conscious of themselves. However, this can lead to some awkward situations and conversations, so maybe accidentally staring at your professors corduroys for ten minutes straight is something to recognize.
Talking to yourself. Out loud.
I talk to myself all the time, especially when I'm alone. But if I talked to myself in front of people? They'd probably think I was nuts. Why is this so weird? If we all acknowledge that we do it, why is it so strange once we're in front of other people? But be comforted if you thought you were insane for talking to yourself because you're not and it's completely natural.
Getting really out of breath climbing the stairs.
After climbing three or four flights of stairs, most people are at least a little out of breath (props to those that are so in shape they don't have to experience this). But for some reason, we like to pretend that we're not breathing loudly, our thighs aren't burning, and that we're not sweating slightly. Why? Climbing stairs sucks. No shame there.
Imagine that your life is a movie/tv show/music video.
Whether it be pretending you're in a music video, movie, or your own television show, we have all done it. Why? Maybe it's because most have grown up seeing many of our role models recorded for our viewing pleasure, or maybe it's because of the ever increasing popularity of reality television. I can tell you that I've been doing this since I was little, so I don't even really see it as weird anymore.
Dancing in public, especially when only you can hear the music in your headphones.
How come whenever someone is brave enough to dance in public, people either expect them to be dancing for money, or that they are incredibly weird? Most of us can't help grooving a little bit when our favorite song blasts through our headphones, but we have to stifle that feeling because it's 'weird.' I say, if your friends don't dance, they're no friends of mine.
Pretending you are telepathic.
We probably have the movie "Matilda" or "Star Wars" for our generation's obsession with trying to move things with just our mind. Or maybe we're just lazy. Whatever the reason is, we've all tried it and don't think you're strange because you have.
Apologizing to inanimate objects when you bump into them.
To be honest, I have no idea why we do this. Maybe we're just too polite. Maybe we've been so conditioned to apologize immediately that our brain just does it. Related to this is also whenever you say "Ow" even if what you did didn't even hurt. Rest assured, everyone does it. No reason to be embarrassed (well, maybe a little).
So while these things seem a little bit weird at first, just know that whenever you're doing something kind of strange, it's a good bet that someone else does the exact same thing.
