This Millennial HAS to Wake Up

Beautiful souls are being stolen, life's taken. Why aren't we waking up? Heroin use has to be eliminated.

Why are we ignoring this problem?

Beautiful souls are being stolen, life's taken. Why aren't we waking up?

This devil drug has to be eliminated, action must be taken and there is no time to wait.

Heroin use has to stop.

Some might say that I'm naive, that I don't understand - and if that's what you're thinking you're completely right... I've tried and tried to understand, but cannot wrap my head around why somebody would use, even just once - because the consequences are detrimental. I've seen friend after friend buried by their loved ones too soon, have had hard conversations with addicts, watched many documentaries, the whole nine yards... and from that, I understand the consequences and wouldn't take that risk.

But this isn't about one's ability to understand why or why not somebody chooses to use drugs, nor is it to criticize. I believe that we need to hate the addiction, not the addict.

This is a long overdue step in the direction of educating and advocating for the elimination of heroin use.

We're all on different life paths, exposed to different people and places - and we cannot blame those who are not educated about drug use... sometimes, you never know until it's too late. We need to wake up and understand that the only people who can change the fate of the future is US. All of us - those who have lost a loved one due to an addiction, who have overcome an addiction of their own, or who want comfort in knowing that our younger siblings and future children won't take that dance with the devil.

We must educate our future on the risk of drug use. We must wake up and recognize the gruesome truth that kids are being exposed to drugs, young. Ignoring the problem does not make it go away.

We must celebrate the life's of those we have lost and become activists - for the future, for them.

Be that change. Have those hard conversations, don't be afraid to offer a helping hand. Vow to educate and advocate, wake up to the harsh reality that this won't go away on it's own. Never stop loving those who are on that path, and let that be motivation to spread awareness so that path becomes blocked off, for good.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
