A vegetarian... what is that? On kidshealth.org it says, "A vegetarian is someone who doesn't eat meat, and mostly eats foods that come from plants, like grains, fruits, vegetables, and nuts."
That's what I was. A person who didn't eat meat for a whole summer, and let me tell you, it was hard. When most people think of summer they think of fires, and BBQs, and cooking steak, burgers, and hot dogs. Well, it was hard for me in the first half of the summer to find things that I enjoyed my dad cooking for me on the BBQ. All the different vegetables, and fruits I tried with the grill.
I am not saying that being a vegetarian is impossible. It's simple once you get into the swing of things. At first it was hard for me because I love steak and burgers. I love when my dad grills things on the BBQ, and you can see the grill marks, and they just taste differently than they have for the other parts of the year. Then there was a time when I went to Utah for a church camp, and could barely eat anything, and then I had a family reunion where I didn't want them to change the whole meal just for me.
Now, your probably wondering why I went vegetarian. Well, you see, my best friend is a vegan, and so she always had these cool things she was eating that was different from almost anything I have seen at that point. So I pushed my self to be somewhat like her and her healthy ways and become vegetarian, but I only wanted to test it out. That's basically how it all happened though.
What's the point of this article then? I want to convince people to try going vegetarian even if its just for a week. During that time, I felt great, and like I had a lot of energy from all the different foods I was eating.
Below, I have attached some great vegetarian meals that you should try, even if you don't plan on taking my challenge. A little change never hurt anyone.
So there you go, the time I went vegetarian for a summer, and I challenge you too.
