With Valentines Day right around the corner, many people are gearing up to give something to someone, whether it's their parents, children, or spouses. As we come upon another season of giving, here are some ideas of ways you give back and encourage others to do so as well:

Goody bags

Candy is EVERYWHERE this time of year, and a lot of stores will be selling it for a pretty good deal. So grab some candy or other inexpensive Valentine's-themed items -- Target has some great ones -- and put them together in a little goody bag. Hand them out to someone who may not be receiving anything this year, someone in need, or someone you care about!

Socks of Love

In the spirit of showing LOVE, a great and simple project to do is Socks of Love. To complete a Socks of Love project, get a long sock and fill it with little necessities. A mini toothpaste, a pocket pack of Kleenex, a little hand sanitizer or even a granola bar will do! Put a little card in it wishing someone a Happy Valentine's Day, and tie the sock with a cute bow! These are a great way to show those in need that you care. Don’t forget to include the other sock to the pair inside with the goodies!

Valentine Cookies

Making someone’s day super sweet is easy with a few cookies! Most cooking stores or even craft stores will sell heart shaped cookie cutters for a pretty low price. So grab some red and pink sprinkles or icing and make some heart cookies. Enjoy your cookies with those you love and then give back by handing out little bags of them to others. Some nursing homes will even let you go in and give out the little bags there, and the people will love to see some new faces.

A {LOVE}ly Care Package

Who doesn’t love getting a package in the mail?! Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to put all the goodies and cookies in one and show someone how much you LOVE them! Maybe it’s a niece or nephew or an old friend who you don’t see a lot. If you can’t get together a package, send a simple card. Too often we forget to tell people how much they mean to us. Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to reset and give back. If you don’t have anyone to send a package to, then create this package and take it to the local homeless shelter. Most places will be happy to give the goodies out to everyone and show the love!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
