Maya Olivia McKenzie

I am a first year freshman attending the University of Louisville, I am currently a Communication major but I am flirting with the idea of an English double major. I may even ultimately switch to education, because my number one passion in life is to use my voice in advancing others. This passion being the main reason I am applying for this position. Also, because I am currently pursing a career in journalism, I recognize the integral role social media plays in calling attention to important issues and concepts affecting people today. While Louisville is wonderful in addressing these issues, in light of recent issues arising from our very own president I believe it is crucial for students on this campus (including myself) be especially outspoken when voicing these issues for fear or certain voices going unnoticed. Being a member of a minority I believe I would have a great deal to offer to the Odyssey as far as a modern opinion and more personal insight on issues that carry relevance not just in my area but across the nation. This is just the platform I need to reach my followers in a professional manner.
