I would make a good writer for The Odyssey because I understand the power and influence of words and the lasting impression they can make on people's opinions and attitudes. I am a strong believer in the idea that words in any form are so powerful and can leave a lasting impression on one’s life. A person can read a piece that can leave them giggly, motivated, frustrated, or empowered, and I think it would be an unbelievable honor to have the chance to connect with my peers on an emotional level.
The second is that I enjoy writing. I have kept a journal for as long as I can remember and it acts as an outlet for me to express myself in a way that only writing can. I love the feeling of finishing a piece and being proud of myself as well as the work that I have created. The opportunity to share my thoughts, advice, or humor with others would simply be a bonus.
Finally, I find that the outpouring support from my sisters, friends, and teachers acts as the best motivation to make this application submission. I have always been my friends’ go-to gal for texts to boys, my teachers have appeared to enjoy my ability to discuss controversial topics with a lighthearted, but firm approach, and I have somehow become the designated person my sisters ask to write dramatic “I missed class because…” emails. The chance to reach out to people beyond my own social and academic circles would be unbelievably rewarding.
I love writing, plain and simple. If given the opportunity to join the Odyssey team, I would use my powers for good and with the intention of spreading positive vibes as well as sparking a new way of thinking among my peers, helping those who long for advice, and simply enjoying an opportunity to grow as a writer as well as a person in a unique fashion.
