Karys Simone is a recent graduate of Spelman College and a current MSJ candidate at Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism where she is focusing on Social Justice and Investigative Reporting. Her passion involves exploring the intersection of race and gender inequality. As a student at Spelman, Karys was a member of the Bonner Scholars Program and actively worked to improve the conditions of the West End Community of Atlanta. She served as a staff member for a number of campus publications including The Blueprint, The Maroon Tiger (Morehouse College), and The Spelman Chapter of Her Campus. During her junior year at Spelman, Karys studied abroad at Queen Mary University of London where she also explored the presence of African decedents in Britain. During her senior year, Karys served as the founder and Editor-In-Chief of the Odyssey Community at Spelman.
