I like thinking about ideas and especially ideology, and the only fair way to do this is to be as intellectually honest as possible. George Orwell claimed that he wasn’t so much a good writer as someone who was good at accepting uncomfortable truths. And I can’t help but agree with the idea that the most important aspect of original, meaningful writing is a perspective that tells the truth no one wants to acknowledge. I find this keeps me from becoming particularly partisan, even though I have strong opinions on certain issues. To me, Odyssey represents a platform I could use to share views based on uncomfortable truths, like any flaws my own ideology has, or any good points my opponents make. I hope to be a voice of civility that can reach out to people with different political and ideological views, and help them understand each other a little more.
