The Odyssey platform is the perfect place to open up conversations that the college community tends to skirt around. This chance to write looks to me like a chance to start talking about issues that the college campus as a whole can benefit from hearing more about. In this past year, Mines has seen a new transparency on issues such as mental health, sexual violence awareness, the clash and/or overlap of science and religion, and many others. The points of view behind each of these topics are endless. It is conversations like this that the community can benefit from diving into and sorting out in each of our minds. Besides big and somewhat emotional issues such as those mentioned, this platform to communicate more widely presents a beautiful opportunity to express the ins and outs of the unique college experience seen for students in engineering. We live in a world of our own, and it is a huge opportunity both for our own community and for those outside of it to really talk about what drives us to better our world. Students at schools like Mines walk across the graduation stage with potential to impact the world that is unlike anything many college students see at age 22. I believe talking about this could potentially create a new environment in the business world to utilize each contributing member's gifts in a unique way in order to take the impact of this generation to a new level. There are many more topics that the community can benefit from, but these are the ones that I currently feel I have a unique perspective on that could add to the community in at least as much as getting people thinking in new, self-reflective ways.
