Alex Herbst

Welcome. My name is Alex Herbst, known to many people by many other names however. From being Alex the Weatherman to Mr. President, a variety of experiences and opportunities have helped to expand my knowledge, abilities, and friendships.

I have been studying meteorology since I was young. After graduating from Plymouth State University with my bachelor’s degree in the field in May 2015, I have worked as a private forecaster for Spot On Weather on a part-time basis. I am now pursuing my master's degree in broadcast meteorology at Mississippi State University, set to graduate in May 2018. Meteorology remains a strong passion of mine in my life, however there are many other areas of interest that I have developed.

Sports writing has become a passion I have pursued in recent years. After a number of years writing for a friend’s website, I branched out to write for Last Word on Sports, focusing on motorsports. I quickly rose through the ranks to lead their NASCAR and IndyCar coverage, and become one of their motorsports editors. I now write for FanSided's dedicated racing website, Beyond the Flag.

In addition, leadership has been something that I connected strongly with in my high school and college education. I previously served as the student representative to the North Brunswick Board of Education for two years, then continuing my involvement with student government in college at Plymouth State University. Beginning as a hall senator, I worked hard to make a difference at my school and in my community, rising to the roles of Student Body President and Senior Class President by my final year. I continued my leadership development by serving on the Council of Students for the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

Outside of my work, I enjoy watching sports, talking with friends, reading, and writing. I look forward to connecting with you all in the near future.
