If you are anything like me, you are missing college life. Most importantly, life in the greatest college town in America -- Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Summer has been a great break from the stresses of school, but I would be lying if I said I don't miss spending my Saturday mornings tailgating. I miss hearing the sweet sounds of Denny Chimes ringing through my ears. So here are nine songs to listen to that will take you back to Tuscaloosa faster than you can say "roll tide." Check it out on Spotify.
Yes, songs by the Million Dollar Band do exist on Spotify. More importantly, if these don't throw you back to the best Saturdays of your life in Bryant-Denny Stadium then I don't know what will. So here's to the days when you wish you were holding a shaker and a Yellow Hammer from Gallettes.
1. "Yeah Alabama" (University of Alabama Million Dollar Band).
2. "Rammer Jammer" (University of Alabama Million Dollar Band).
3. "We Dem Boys" (Wiz Khalifa).
While these songs are notably played during football games, it's not uncommon to hear them on different occasions, from pre-games to weddings. Last year I went to a debutante ball and heard "Sweet Home Alabama."
Warning: Best played when you are alone so you aren't embarrassed when you accidentally scream "AGAINST THE WALL," or any of the other lyrics that have been unofficially inserted into these songs.
4. "Dixieland Delight" (Alabama).
5. "Sweet Home Alabama" (Lynyrd Skynyrd).
6. "Wagon Wheel" (Old Crow Medicine Show).
If you were not at a pregame, party, or social event when this came on, and the entire crowd sang together in unison, then I feel badly for you. Obviously, this is a classic hit for the kids down south.
7. "About The South" (Rodney Atkins).
This tune used to be the soundtrack for Alabama's "I'm Schmacked" video so maybe it's just me, but this song brings on a montage of the prettiest places on campus. It also makes me think about my favorite foods that can only be found in Tuscaloosa and basically everything else I love about the south.
8. "Southern Voice" (Tim McGraw).
When the song mentions "Bear Bryant" and a "Crimson Tide t-shirt," your heart can't help but swell with pride and a deep longing to be back at the Capstone.
9. "Number 15/Bama Baby."
I didn't think you'd find this on Spotify, but I double checked and there it was. However it is imperative that you watch the video before you listen to the song. It might just be the best song on the playlist.
It's basically four minutes and four seconds of #throwbacks to our 15th National Championship win. Video footage includes (but is not limited to) shots of Nick Saban being himself (perfection), AJ McCarron (miss you BAE), football highlights, and the signature cockiness that only Alabama football fans have.
Nothing will get you more excited to head into the new school year and keep on the #RoadTo16.
