Turns Out TV May Not Be Super Reliable.

TV is making a mockery of my life... but here I am watching it.

Turns Out TV May Not Be Super Reliable.

New Girl

How realistic could a show about an odd and rather quirky women in her thirties moving in with three random guys be? Moving in with three guys in your thirties? C’mon, Leaving your twenties behind may be a little scary, but with age, comes a better living arrangement. And better doesn’t equate to shacking up with three random dudes—even if you do become really good friends.

Fresh Off the Boat

Moving is good, right? Not so much of the Huang family. The Huang family leaves Washington D.C. in hopes of a better life in Florida. Unfortunately, they don’t see very much sun. In reality, Florida has a lot to offer. Miami? Check. Beaches? Check. Disney World? Check. Universal Studios? Check. How can you go wrong?!

Beverly Hills, 90210

Usually, when we move to a new place it takes some time to get adjusted. But in Beverly Hills, 90210 Brandon and Brenda immediately become the talk of the town, landing dates and faking their way into nightclubs. Definitely skewed my perception of what would happen when I switched schools. It’s never that easy.

Futurama

The saying goes future's so bright you gotta wear shades, not future so dim you’d rather go back a few hundred years. Futurama kind of makes the future seem like a hot mess I don’t want to be part of and definitely makes me appreciate the time period I’m in. Also, a sentient robot that like doesn’t rust or go berserk when he drinks beer? Very fishy.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Kimmy literally goes from living underground to out on the town. Not just any town, New-frickin-York; one of the most difficult cities to make it in. And would you believe it, she immediately gets a job and finds an affordable place to live—How?!

The Cleveland Show

Cleveland and his son make their way to a new town, you know, how people do every now and then. But somehow within his first couple of days of being there he begins life with a new family. Takes me at least a week to feel comfy enough to go out on a date, so I feel like the show is making a mockery of my love life. Like, thanks Seth MacFarlane, thanks a lot.

The Walking Dead

Rick wakes up and the world has ended. We’ve all been through that (kind of). Might as well get some traveling done while you’re not a zombie, right? Rick makes the decision to head to Atlanta. Unfortunately, a whole gang of ravenous zombies is there to greet him. One, greeting parties are never that packed. Two, the attendees aren’t zombies. So many unrealistic standards.

Bottom line, if you’re moving to a new place don’t count on TV to give you any realistic expectations.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
