We all have many friends, and with that, many types of friends. Some we grew up with, some we met in middle school or college, and some we know will be our friends to the day we die. Those friends I would classify as "true friends" or "life-long friends". These are the people that you love as if they were family and the people who you can't imagine living your life with their absence. Here are some things that can help you differentiate between true friends and acquaintances.
1. True friends make you a better person.
They check and make sure you have done your daily devotion, they make you study for that test you don't want to think about, they make sure you don't treat your body like a garbage can. These people make sure that no matter what, you are being the best you can be.
2. They watch out for you.
If you are in your room studying for hours, they will be the ones to bring you pizza because they know you probably forgot to eat dinner.
3. They listen to you intently.
No matter if you are talking about something completely pointless or something serious and on your heart, you can trust that they are listening to you. They don't ignore what's on your heart and mind because everything is meaningful to them and important.
4. They are there any time you need them.
They are present. They give you time and they give you attention. They will answer your 3 A.M. phone call. They will come pick you up when you run out of gas even though they told you not to drive around on E all the time.
5. They keep your ego in check.
Humility is important and we are all quick to get a big head sometimes. Friends are there to pull us up from our low-points, but also to keep us humble when things are all going right.
6. They keep a smile on your face and happiness in your heart.
Friends fight, a lot more than you would expect. It's not because they hate each other, it's because they care about each other. But through adversity and disagreements, true friends seek to do one thing: make each other happy. True friends can look at you and tell you they love you right after having an argument with you!
7. They celebrate your successes and support your through your losses.
They are available for every random dance party or crying session you need. Always.
