Top 11 Reasons To Be Grateful For Winter

As the world turns into shades of gray, brown and black it gets hard to fully appreciate everything about the season of winter. It’s difficult to not daydream about the sunshine and green grass that surrounds us in the summer time. But winter has its many perks as well. I personally love this time of year because it’s a time where everything slows down. I get to reflect and prepare for the new year ahead. Besides that, there are countless reason to love this season.

Here’s a list of things to be grateful for when the winter blues start to hit:

1. Family family family...or anyone you adore

Nothing beats spending quality time with the people you love most. This time of year is what I look forward to all year because good food, crazy gatherings and happy memories are a guarantee.

2. You get to work on your hobbies that you were procrastinating

Winter is the time where I can get most of my personal things done. For example, learning an extravagant recipe, reading, or trying new workouts.

3. You’ll feel less guilty if you dedicate a day to movies and fluffy blankets

Well it’s too cold and gloomy to go outside or get dressed sooo it’s okay to stay in for a day right?

4. Not needing to set an alarm for majority of your week

Unlike during the fall semester, my schedules aren’t jam packed with endless commitments anymore. You don't need to worry too much about deadlines and the bliss of not being rushed is priceless.

5. Seeing old friends

Around this time is when everyone is back and there’s really never a dull moment with your hometown squad.

6. Shamelessly eating Christmas goodies and not feeling guilty

There’s really no penalty for eating like you’ve been starving all year because hey, this is only occurs once a year.

7. Christmas lights

There’s something so magical and special about lights that I can never get over. It’s necessary to embrace it before it's all gone.

8. You can be fashionable even though all you did was throw on some thick sweaters and scarves...

This season brings cute and comfortable to a whole new level. Score.

9. You get much needed alone time

With downtime, comes the ability to unwind and loosen up. You deserve every ounce of the benefits that solitude brings to you.

10. New year, better you

Winter means that this year is coming to an end and a new beginning is about to bloom. For the new year, take your time to write goals and your action plan to achieve them.

11. Winter exclusive activities

The cold months call for creativity. From winter festivals to light shows to ice-skating at the local rink-- there’s always something to try and do in the winter.

Make the best out of every day and realize that everything is temporary. No matter if the situation is bad or good. So own every moment and make it worthwhile. Winter comes and goes like everything else in life so enjoy it while it lasts.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
