Time Management In A Fast Paced Society
Rebecca Snelgrove

Truth is that we live in a fast-paced society. Sad thing is, it is not getting any slower. In fact, society speeds up daily, and it does not think twice about slowing down for the people along for the ride within it. So, what are we supposed to do as college students and people entering a society where everything continuously goes at a fast pace? That's easy, take a breath, get our ducks in a row, and roll with the punches.

I know what you are thinking; "That's easier said than done, and a lot of people don't have the load I have in society." That sort of thinking is false, though. Truth is we all have extremely similar loads in society or the exact same; however, we all have a different method of time managing the loads we have.

And, as many times as life knocks us down by how fast everything is due, things happen, and the speed at which events occur, we have to have courage enough to get back up and stand our ground.

Sometimes we must sit down and take a breath to get rational thoughts with rational outcomes because living in a fast paced society can be stressful if I am being honest. But taking that breath, and getting rational outcomes is what will pull us through the stressful and difficult times we have with events we feel we cannot change or have any control over.

Rational outcomes involve getting our ducks in a row. Weigh out what is of importance to you and what's not of importance to you. One of my biggest struggles is developing a scheduled time to go to the gym because not every day has the same automatic routine. However, I have made my mind that the gym or some sort of exercise is one of the "ducks" in the row I should have daily, regardless of the work, chores, or other jobs I have throughout the day. The thing about a fast paced society is developing a time for everything you desire to do and weighing the importance of things that may have some overlap or conflict. Life is full of decisions, and you are expected to make the ones that you believe best for you. Are you going to workout or watch that television series at 7:00? Are you going to take that lunch break at 12:00 or 1:30?

Last but not least, once you have taken that breath of fresh air and gotten your ducks in a row, it is time you roll with the punches! I am not saying life in a fast-paced society is easy after taking a breath and getting your ducks in a row, but it is better and slightly easier. Now you have a routine, and you have acknowledged what is important for you to fulfill. Hopefully, you will see a broader completion of tasks than before, because completion can be hard without a specific schedule or routine. And even schedules involve a night out with the girls or watching a football game with the bros. Everyone needs some fun here and there to unwind from stress. But, in the great lyrics of Jordan Sparks, take it "One Step at a Time," and have full confidence that everything will be fine!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
