Hello, I’m here to introduce you to yourself. You might think that you're already familiar, but let’s do a refresher course because I know you've been a little distracted lately.
Well, this is your room. You might remember it being cleaner, but you stopped entertaining the idea of having the “picture perfect” bedroom because you finally ditched your freshman year boyfriend. He was way too much of a clean freak anyway, and you don’t need someone changing you for better or worse. Even though he did for a little bit—moving on! Your once blue walls have faded due to your short-lived artistic phase that I actually thought was a good look for you! Especially because that article you read about, “Being a Muse,” was so, how did you put it? Oh yes, inspirational. Oh, whatever. "The beauty is in the process" is what I always say.
Let’s keep going on our tour. Oops! I almost tripped on your “sandals for a cause.” Do you remember when you bought 3 pairs because you and your friends were so passionate about socially conscious fashion? Those were the days I thought there was going to be an endless amount of free stuff coming my way. Like you said, what's the point if your friends aren’t as interested as you anymore? They may have had a point that one person can’t make a difference all by themselves, even though you did buy 3 pairs of flip-flops and a bracelet. In my humble opinion, you have done more than your part.
Oh wait! It’s your record player, man you used to love this thing. It looks little dusty, but records don’t go bad! Wait, do they? Anyway we can go to an aesthetically pleasing record shop and add to your collection. What was that band the guy you liked was into again? Geez, it's like, as more time goes by, I remember less and less.
Speaking of things that you haven’t done in a while, I know that it's been a while since you've spent time reading The Bible and going to church. I know it's awkward when everyone is too tired to wake up, and I don’t blame you for not wanting to go in alone. You are not a superhero! But don’t worry, there is no bad time to start. You could pick up your Bible right now. Wait, we need to make sure you take a picture and post it because we want your followers to know that you're a well-rounded and a devout Christian—and you say I don’t look out for you!
This stroll down memory lane has me thinking; You have so many interest and hobbies that are abandoned now and they used to bring you so much joy. What happened? Do you not love them anymore, or is the person who encouraged you to pursue them gone? Maybe if we pursued things without thinking of who will or won't see or how we look when we do it, we wouldn’t have picked up half the things in this room.
It could be a blend of all these things, and I’m not trying to be harsh. I do see the value in trying new things and I support your quest for self-discovery. I’m just going to give you a little piece of unsolicited advice, do things with no one but yourself in mind. Who knows? You could be a wizard with numbers, you could have a hidden musical talent, or you could even write a novel one day. The possibilities are endless for you because you are valuable in your own unique way. So, tap into that potential and work really hard at things that bring you joy and fuel your fire. At the nd of the day, those are the things that shape who you are—which, from what I can tell, is a pretty great person.
