I have always wanted to be a performer. At my preschool graduation when asked what I wanted to be, I said a ballerina. In elementary and middle school, I wanted to be a pop star/singer. The summer after my eigth grade year, I found community theatre. After my first community show, very simply, I was IN LOVE. I knew for a fact that when I "grew up," I wanted to be performing in plays/musicals.
Starting my Sophomore year of high school, I got an interest in the healthcare field. I didn't know what I wanted to become, I just knew I wanted to help people. I struggled with what I wanted to major in up until March of my Senior year. My high school was fortunate enough to perform the One-Act version of David Saar's "The Yellow Boat" at the 2016 Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC). My theatre teacher knew how much I struggled with choosing whether I wanted to major in healthcare, or theatre. So, one day he and I were talking and he mentioned auditioning for the Undergraduate schools as an entrance into their theatre programs/to learn more about good schools for Theatre majors. Immediately a light bulb went off.
The conference was how I was going to pick a major! So, flash forward a couple of months, and I am at SETC. I did my audtion, and it went very smoothly, and I was over the moon. I ended up getting callbacks to 13 schools!! I don't remember when, but I think it was during one of the workshops we went to that week, I realized that theatre is a healing art. It helps people heal in their times of need! So from that, I decided to major in theatre, and go to MTSU to further my education. I am over halfway through the semester, and to be honest, I am loving the theatre program! It's like a big family, everyone supports everyone, and it's just awesome. So, shout out to my theatre family. Love y'all!!! But anyways, I love being a theatre major. In the future I may not have a year round job that has six-figure pay, but at the end of the day, I am going to love what I do, and that's all that matters!
I am a Theatre major.
No, I am not crazy.
