Blue Mountain State (BMS) was a crude, absurd show ... but it was one of the best. Chances are most who view this page will have no idea what the Goat House is, or will have a complete different idea as to what this post was going to be about. Well, I am here to inform those who never got to experience the childish, humorous, short-lived, hard partying sitcom what it is that makes Blue Mountain State something worth your time.
Alex Moran: "Are you sure that this is gonna work?"
Thad Castle: "I've never been more sure of anything in my life."
Alex Moran: "That's what I'm afraid of."
No, it’s no Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, or Family guy but let me leave you with a few reasons as to why you should begin binge watching on Netflix...right now.
1. It’s freaking hilarious.
It is over the top and crude and incredibly funny on every level. Pretty sure I have watched most episodes twice.
2. BMS is not afraid to push the envelope.
Nothing was ever “off the table, we can’t do that”. For heaven’s sake...there is an episode called Pocket P**sy which revolves around, well, a pocket p**sy. Alongside that there is “Dic Pics”, “Drunk Tank” and “The Fingering”. Nothing about that is ‘in the box’.
3. The reality of college.
Gossip Girl tried as well as a few other shows but none will compare to just how closely the life of a college student could be. It’s quite an absurd outdone version but though I have no real frame of reference here, I can assume big –time athletes paly hard to party hard. The main characters, Thad and Alex, are the stars, they get the girls, they have status on campus…it’s close enough.
4. The lack of conformity.
Sammy Cacciatore, the mascot, is the best BMS has had…though some would disagree. He reminds viewers to be themselves with confidence and courage because he may get shut down, almost every time, but at least he put himself out there. He did not conform to the norm.
5. The passion.
No you BMS show lovers. Not that. This passion is the lesson Thad gives to us viewers when he finds his passion through partying hard and being a leader. He has goals, not the ones you necessarily should have in college, but he has them and will put all his energy into achieving them. Find your passion.
6. The slang.
One of the legacies BMS will surely leave behind would be the creative wordplay. Characters of this show have contributed some real gems to our language such as “bro beans” and “sloot” but also gave new meaning to the term “oil change”.
7. The Goat House.
The Goat is the BMS mascot. The house is nothing special other than being the house where just about every epic party is held at Blue Mountain State College. It’s fine. Nothing special.
8. You obviously don’t have to be the best at everything.
Alex Moran knows this and makes sure everyone knows he knows. He is content being the second string position as long as he is having a good time. Take a lesson from Alex and if you aren’t the best student in your Economics class, who cares. Do what you know and enjoy.
9. Have no regrets.
Mary Jo Cacciatore, the drunkest cheerleader at the party, shows us that life is about living for the day. If she wants to show up to practice drunk, she will. Be proud of what you do and don’t dwell. Own the mistakes but remember, it’s a stride of pride…not a walk of shame.
If the previous reasons have not quite brought you into The Goat House, watch the opening credits. You will know exactly what you are getting yourself into and if you can’t hang through the credits, you probably won’t enjoy the show so go back to what you were doing before this post and you have now wasted your time reading all the reasons as to why you should do it anyways.
Talk to ya la-later Bro Beans
