The Different Kinds Of "Funny"

What type of humor do you possess?

Most of my articles, although I believe speak the truth (I’m not biased or anything, obviously), make me sound like I’m a super broody teenager who spends her time contemplating her life decisions. Although I’d like to say I’m that intellectual, in actuality I’m probably one of the goofiest people you’ll run into. It’s hard to come across as "goofy" in articles, however, and that got me thinking of all the different types of humor there are. What defines a “funny” person, exactly? Most of us would like to say we’re funny, but how do we know that’s exactly the case? What type of funny person are we?

1. Stephen Colbert Funny

Ah, yes, the politically educated smart-ass who gets away with whatever they say because somehow it’s still funny. You gasp, scoff or roll your eyes at the things that come out of their mouth, and yet, you still find yourself cracking up and giving them props for their witty comments. You’ve got to hand it to them, they can pull it off, and only certain people can. Dry humor is a hard one to master.

2. Jennifer Lawrence Funny

These people are an absolutely hilarious mess. Their goofiness and, well, clumsiness is what makes them funny. The klutzes of the funny world. Everything they do or say doesn’t turn out like they had planned, and therefore, they have nothing to do but laugh along with the crowd and own up to their mess-ups. They have no shame in their embarrassing actions or making a fool of themselves, and play along with it since it’s bound to happen anyway.

3. Ellen DeGeneres Funny

The type of funny everyone likes to think that they are, but very few actually master. The witty, goofy, intelligent kind of funny that leaves people smiling, feeling good, and laughing their asses off. The effortlessly hilarious human being that always says the right thing at the right time. They mean no harm in their jokes, making nothing but harmless, hilarious comments, and yet they’re labeled as one of the funniest people you’ve ever met. They are blessed.

4. Khloe Kardashian Funny

We’ve all got that one friend who is just so ruthless in their comments that you can’t help but laugh at a large fraction of them. The mix of being an absolute “betch” and hilariously clever. Most of the time you can’t quite tell whether they’re joking or trying to create World War III, and they will never apologize for their blunt and most likely offensive comments. You can’t help but laugh along sometimes and give them a pat on the back for being so unapologetically ruthless—as long as it’s not towards you, at least.

5. Jim Carrey Funny

Basically, everything they say is hilarious but you’re left just wondering if they’re actually insane.

Regardless of what kind of “funny-ness” you seem to exhibit, I’m sure you’ve made someone laugh in your lifetime. You can’t really learn a different kind of humor than the one you’re seemingly born with, so embrace it and wear it well. As for me, you’ll probably catch me falling down some stairs or dancing in the nearest grocery store.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
