The Best Of Fall In Lexington

The leaves are changing and the Virginia air is cooling, which can only mean one thing… fall has finally arrived. Say goodbye to the heat and hello to this crisp new season with these seven fun must-do’s of fall.

7. Pumpkin Carving

Pumpkins, probably the most common symbol of fall, are the first obstacles you must tackle this season; so get out your knives and start carving. Don’t be afraid to get creative and try out a scary face, your Greek affiliation’s symbol, or the W&L trident.

6. Fall football

At the high school, college, or professional level, fall football is always enjoyable to watch. In Lexington, be sure to support our own Generals team!!

5. Bundle Up

As the temperature drops, it’s time to put away the summer wardrobe and bring out the sweaters and jackets. This fall everything from chokers to schoolgirl jumpers are back in style, but those warm turtleneck sweaters and over-the-knee boots will always be a favorite to stay warm.

4. Cider and Sweets

Fall foods are definitely one of the best things that come with fall. There is simply nothing like warm apple cider on a chilly day followed by a huge piece of apple pie!

3. Lexington Ghost Tour

Mark and Sherry Cline’s “Haunting Tales” are one of Lexington’s spookiest attractions this fall. This ghost tour allows you to see what really occurs at the burial place of Stonewall Jackson.

2. Horror Movies

If you’re looking to be scared this fall, check out Ouija: Origin of Evil, Blair Witch, or Don’t Breathe.Ouiga offers a scare when a merciless spirit overtakes the youngest daughter of a widowed mother. If you’d prefer to be frightened by watching a man search for his missing sister through the Black Hills Forest accompanied by a menacing presence then check out Blair Witch. Or if watching a group of friends break into the house of a wealthy blind man is your scare of choice, watch Don’t Breathe.

1. Dress Up!

Halloween, everyone’s favorite part of fall, has come and gone but that means its already time to start thinking of next years costume! If you’re looking for a spooky way to dress up as a couple, try going as the Joker and Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad. Looking for a cuter costume? Ladies get out your fangs and guys get our your suspenders because vampires and fire-fighters are fun costume choices this fall. Looking for a hilarious outfit? Ladies get out your jumpsuits and guys get our your clown suits because convicts and clowns are the way to have a laugh this Halloween.

Get excited and go try all of these fun fall activities before winter rolls around!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
