Thank You Letter To My Aunt
Danielle Swaw

I would like to start off by saying thank you! Thank you for everything you have ever done for me, the things you do for me, and the things you will do for me in the future. You are one of the reasons I am who I am. You help shape me as a person, and you always teach me something.

I know when I was younger I was a spoiled brat, but you still loved me! Thank you for that. You were one of my first friends in life. I learned early on that I could depend on my Aunt Crystal for anything, and she would always have my back. That is the coolest part of having you as my aunt. You have always been in my life, and I couldn’t imagine it any different! You were always rooting for me, even when I felt as if everyone was against me!

Thank you for taking me out to eat, because you always have to listen to me bring up our first Sonic trip. Although it hasn’t happened since, we all still like to give you some trouble for it. You taught me the rules of Monopoly, to not trust anyone! Whenever I was little, you were always up to playing all the fun kid games no one else wanted to play.

We had been sort of close when I was younger, but recently we got super close. I am really glad we did. I loved being around whenever your younger kids were born and growing up, because I find them more precious than words can say! I absolutely adore them, and you know I will always view Sugie as my little sister. I spent most of my childhood with her, and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. It always makes me feel good when she comes to me with advice or just to talk.

Thanks for always having a piece of advice for me, especially right now in my life. When I decided to go away for college, you were more than supportive. You always offered to get me any essentials I would need, and I can’t thank you enough! You sent me my dorm room décor, and even decorations when Christmas time drew near! I loved when I got to visit you on my home visits!

I want to thank you for opening up your home and you heart to me, I love your family so much. I love how you have your doors open for me whenever I need to visit. I always fear I stay too long, since whenever I get to visit we stay up so late talking! Once again, thank you for staying up late just to talk to me.

You will always be close to my heart, and I know I can come to you with anything, and you will keep it a secret. You mean so much to me, probably more than you know. You are one of my role models, and I aspire to be like you. In a world of grey, you are a bright ray of sunshine. You taught me what it means to be an aunt, and I hope that I am going to be an amazing aunt like you are.

I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate you, and the things you do. I love you very much, and you will always have a place in my heart.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
