Thank You Letter To My Friend That Is Transferring

To My Friend That Is Leaving,

Nothing makes me more nostalgic than looking at pictures of us from school and remembering that the next time I'm walking across campus, I won't be seeing your face in passing. We've said our goodbyes, and wow how hard it was to know that this would be goodbye for a while. I am thankful to have known you for as long as I have and our friendship is something that I will cherish forever. But here's a few things that I left unsaid...and here's to you.

I want you to know how much you've allowed me to be me. Knowing you has allowed me to be the best and worst versions of myself and to be able to be completely comfortable with myself around you, is the best thing you could do for me. I have grown as a person because of you and have learned so much more about myself because of the great friend you are.

Thank you for being someone I could trust. Obviously, the transition from our hometown to college is difficult because we have no one in our corner upon arrival. But since I've met you, I have learned that I now have a new support system away from home and one that I will continue to have forever. Thank you for listening to me when I needed a shoulder to cry on, for telling me the things I didn't want to hear and for being someone I could count on. Thank you for caring and putting me before yourself at times when you didn't need too.

Thank you for all the laughs and memories that I will never forget. Thank you for the whole belly laughs that don't happen very often but you got to witness. Thank you for all those nights we spent in our dorm rooms not really doing anything but having a blast and creating memories that we will think about 50 years from now.

Thank you for showing me that we're in this together no matter what. Thank you for reassuring me that we will still talk all the time and I can continue to annoy you from 300+ miles away. I need your strength and continuous optimism to make it to the next time we see each other, you always remind me that distance doesn't mean a thing.

Most importantly, thank you for being you. You are a one of a kind person that not many people get the chance to meet. You have opened my eyes to a whole array of things that I wouldn't have experienced without you...like eating cold meatballs. You are the kind of person you want to be around at all times and the friend you want to have when all else fails. I want nothing but the best for you and I hope your new school can give you that. I hope you reach all of those goals you set and that one day I can see how successful you have become. I know you'll do great things no matter where life takes you and I wish you the best of luck.

Please don't forget about me when you meet cool people at your new school because you'll always be apart of my college family.

Sincerely,

Me

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
