As I scroll through my Facebook newsfeed, I can't help but take a quick peek at all the promposals, gowns, tuxes, and elaborate corsages in pictures posted by every single high schooler I'm friends with on social media.
It has only been a mere two years since I went to senior prom, I even had the long dress, corsage, and the works. Yet this world of expensive dresses, limousine rides and "proposing" to ask someone to a simple school dance seems like a whole new world.
Promposals are blowing up social media and the news, inspired by popular TV shows and even real wedding proposals. There are now even Twitter accounts just for promposals, and some TV shows' Twitter accounts are sharing the most creative promposals related to their show. The idea, as every chick-flick obsessed girl like myself can always appreciate, is cute, romantic, and insanely sappy.
But why are these huge gestures and professions of love (or maybe just high school crushes) occurring so early in life? As old fashioned as it may seem, isn't a girl supposed to dream of that moment until her engagement?
Well, the wait does not have to be too long anymore. With gestures just as grand, and in some cases even getting down on one knee, the promposals around the nation are in a close running with the real deal.
Why wait for your big engagement day when you get a ring for prom?
Maybe you're already writing prom vows so the wedding vows don't even have to happen.
Ever wonder if prom night and wedding night are the same? This picture helps answer that question.
If prom equals free food and drinks, you better know I'm in!
Maybe prom isn't so great, especially if you have to take all of this off your car -- talk about a lifetime of commitment (to cleaning).
Got cold feet? No worries, your prom date already gave you an easy getaway.
Or maybe you're already walking down the aisle, and it's not even your wedding day yet!
Of course us girls can still dream of the day we get engaged and continue pinning pictures of the perfect gown, ring, and wedding party on Pinterest. We can already have our color scheme picked out and the bridesmaids' dresses planned, and now we are just waiting for the right guy to come along. But at least girls of this generation can count on prom to make the wait a little shorter and a little less agonizing. And hopefully the marriage proposal will outrun the promposal and come out on top – good luck to the guys out there, prepare yourself!
