Summer Plans

Summer, summer, time!

Summer Plans

My summer plans are not what I intended. After getting accepted on a trip to New York for two months, I decided to turn it down. I turned it down for many different reasons, but the main one was because I needed some time for myself. I needed time to reflect on this past year and build myself back up.

This summer is going to be a whole lot of fun, and I am super duper excited, but I am also kinda nervous. I'm nervous because it is going to bring a lot of change into my life. This kind of change is very good though. It includes getting back into shape and relaxing (something that is my main priority right now.) I have just finished the hardest school year of my life and I really just need to chill out. With that in mind, here are some of my goals for this summer:

1. Lose weight

Obviously that's the biggest goal, but I also want to have a lot of fun doing it! I want to be able to lose weight and get healthy in a fun way, not in a boring "I hate this" kind of way. I think it is important to have a healthy body and to have a blast while getting there!

2. Learn how to cook.

In college, most of my meals are fast food mainly because I am always on the go. In the moments I am able to slow down and actually taste my food, it comes from the caf (and it's not the best food to be honest.) During the weekends that I visit my boyfriend, I try to help his family out with the cooking and this results in me burning food... like bacon. So this summer, I aim to be a chef by the end. (Let's hope I don't burn down the house.)

3. Family time

Since I live about three to three and a half hours away from home, I never really go there. My "family time" results in phone calls with my parents and maybe two visits every semester. This summer will include many fun camping trips to bring back that good ol' family time! Some college students would compare this to hell, but since my parents are my best friends, I am super excited.

4. Beach

The beach is my favorite place to go. My goal is to be there at least two to three times a week.

We'll see what I accomplish, but these goals don't seem to hard! What are some of your summer plans?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
