With the spring semester well on its way, the season of flowers, pastels and engagement rings has quickly crept up on us. For those of you in a committed relationship with someone who is “marriage material” and ready to take it to the next level, this is the best news you have heard since hearing that the full series of "Friends" is now on Netflix.
For those of you who are not in a relationship at all, this may just as well be the worst thing you’ve heard since hearing Nickleback for the first time.
Both are completely understandable reactions.
The infamous phenomenon, “ring by spring,” has been common on college campuses for many years, making many students feel either stressed or blessed.
For those who are unfamiliar with the term, “ring by spring” is a phenomenon describing how most couples that attend Christian universities get engaged by the spring semester of their senior year. Some would even argue that it’s the only reason they’re paying an arm and a leg and even taking out enough student loans to buy a small castle—to find the guy or girl of their dreams. Luckily, if you are a single freshman, you have four years to make some magic happen. Unfortunately, for those of you who are single upperclassmen, time is ticking.
For all you single guys out there looking for a girl to, in the words of the great Beyoncé, “put a ring on it,” now is your time.
“Ring by spring” is not only on the minds of the single and brokenhearted, but also those in committed relationships. There have been many success stories for college students who have in fact tied the knot. For instance, in talking with students who have gone through the typical steps of “ring by spring,” their married-life college experience has been something that you would see in your favorite rom-com. They agreed that the best part about being married is playing card games during their breaks on campus.
How cute is that? Playing your favorite card game with your husband or wife in between study breaks? That seems like something straight out of a Nicholas Sparks movie.
For those of you feeling stressed about whether or not you will find that special someone on your campus, now is the time to start going on more coffee dates with that cute guy or girl in your class.
And for those guys out there worried that their girlfriends might read this, you’re welcome.
