Step Your Spring Break Game Up

It sucks seeing everyone else on the beach while you're on your couch.

Here you are sitting on your couch at three in the afternoon, probably still in your pajamas, heck they might even be the leggings and t-shirt you wore the day before, and you are scrolling through your Instagram feed and all you see if beach picture after beach picture. It seems like everyone but you went somewhere for spring break this year. They all escaped the cold and here you are prepping for an impending snow storm (winter break part two?) But, when are you ever going to have a week off again? Probably not for a very very long time, so take advantage of it. Here are somethings to do when you are not spending spring break the way you intended:

1. Buy yourself a nice bottle of wine.

Since it is going to snow and you are going to be stuck inside, you might as well have a nice bottle of wine to snuggle up with. Red or white, doesn't matter, pick your poison.

2. Clean your room.

You probably left it a mess when you left for spring semester because you were so excited to go back to school. So what better time than now to clean up your room.

3. Donate your clothes.

Whatever clothes you left at home, clearly are not that impressive, otherwise you might have brought them with you, so get rid of them, donate them.

4. Pretend you are somewhere else.

Turn on some tropical music, make a fruity drink, maybe turn the heat up a little bit in your room, and just for a little while, pretend that you are on a beach vacation. Just think, you won't come back all sandy, which, who wants that anyway?

5. Binge watch something.

Let's be real, this is what we all will probably end up doing anyway. But why not start something new? It doesn't have to be a "new" show, just maybe something that you haven't watched before instead of watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S. for the billionth time.

6. Readjust your internal clock

Since you have the time and there are less things for you to work on, try and go to bed earlier and get up at a decent time. During the semester we abuse our internal clocks by pulling all nighters so frequently and we never get the chance to set them back until we are on a break like this.

These may be simple little things and they may not be as great as going to the beach but, since you are stuck in the cold, snowy Northeast, you might as well give them a try.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
