You deserve it.

10 Reasons To Treat Yo' Self

The term “Treat Yo' Self” comes from the TV show "Parks and Recreation." In the show, Tom and Donna set aside one day a year to do what ever they want to do. This includes, but is not limited to, a spa day, shopping, and eating at fancy restaurants. While most college students don’t have the money to have extravagant “treat yo' self” days, there are still many reasons to treat yo' self. So break out the unhealthy food and some of your favorite movies and treat yo' self!

1. Finals are coming up

Finals are a looming thought that haunt college students from the beginning of the school year to the very end. The thought that one test or one paper could make or break your grades for the year is stressful. If studying for finals is overwhelming, take a break and treat yo' self.

2. Studying is stressful

All of my professors recommend that students study at least 5 hours a week outside of the classroom. When taking 4 or 5 classes, the amount of studying can add up 25+ hours of studying every week. So when studying gets too stressful, treat yo' self.

3. Finals are over

Fast forward to the end of December when you are all done with finals and all your studying paid off (hopefully). All that studying and hard work deserves a day to treat yo' self.

4. You had a rough week

Sometimes college is really hard. You’re away from your family, classes are hard, and sometimes things just seem like too much. When having a rough week, take a step back and treat yo' self.

5. You're feeling yourself

Just killed your Econ test? Or maybe you’ve had a really great day and want to reward yourself? Treat yo' self.

6. Or not...

We all have days where we feel super bleh about ourselves. Take time to realize that you are amazing and treat yo' self.

7. Girl time

Sometimes the best way to unwind is to have some good, old-fashioned girl time. So break out that face mask and some chocolate and treat yo' self.

8. Boys are stressful

In college, there seems to be this pressure to have someone. Whether that be just a hookup or a boyfriend, it feels like there is a rush to be with someone. When the pressure to be with someone is too much, take a step back and treat yo' self.

9. Time to yourself

Taking time for yourself is not only recommended, but it’s necessary to stay sane. If it’s considered “selfish,” then who cares?! Treat yo' self.

10. You deserve it

One semester of college is almost over and that is cause for celebration. Treat yo' self.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
