No. No, I swear I just hauled my five bags over my shoulders through Port Authority yesterday, so excited for the entire holiday season to finally begin. I swear I just blinked and now I'm starting the spring semester of my sophomore year. Everyone always asks how college and adult life is treating you, but I didn't actually believe they'd be telling the truth when they said how fast it would all go. A month actually just raced by us all and now we'll be back at school. Are you ready? I have no clue if I am.
Spring semester is always the more dense semester. So much will go on, that sometimes you forget how it's actually a lot of fun if you don't plan for it. Finances permitting, it might be one of the best times you ever have at college.
If you're like me, where spring semester (like most semesters for some people) is probably going to be a lot more stressful than you think, I would suggest planning things ahead of time so you have stuff to look forward to in the future. Have a kind of light at the end of the tunnel of the stressful academic year.
If you want to go some place for vacation on spring break, know it won't be exactly cheap, but it'll most likely be worth it. If you're planning to study abroad soon, start saving now! If you're already planning what music festivals you're going to hit up in the spring & summer, get a group chat going so everyone can prepare accordingly for it. If you haven't had a chance to visit your friends from home at their schools, pick a weekend you're free and leave the comfort of your own dorm for once!
We're at the age where we're taking in so much at once at college that if we don't set long term goals for ourselves, we might forget how well we could have utilized our time.
And although not every part of the spring semester is easy, like having to deal with midterms and finals again, housing applications and internships, you can bet on never really being too bored.
During this time for me, I'm going to try and say yes to more that I have not tried. While some people may drone on about how 2017 is the year of "new beginnings" and "new experiences" don't dismiss it all just yet. After the disaster of a year 2016 was, any step away from the mistakes that happened then is a step in the right direction.
So while even though I am not nearly ready for all that is about to ensue this year, I am actually excited. It will still be me, still struggling to wake up on time now for my 8 am's (kill me), and not some brand new persona. But what I have to look forward to, like I know a lot of other people do as well, is a year I know will be full of great and new things to come.
