Whether you are an adult, a secondary school student, or even currently attending a university, you have probably heard a considerable amount of slang come from the mouths of college students. If you are a secondary school student, you will find out that you have a lot to look forward to! If you are a college student, you know exactly what I am talking about. And if you're my mom, well I'm sorry. If you know the term "rager" or "mixer," you're definitely a college student (or very up to date with college slang). If you didn't, you're in for a treat.

1. Mixer

A party between a single sorority and a single fraternity, no one else is invited.

"Hey, Ken are you going to the mixer tonight?"

"No, I can't. It's only for people like Brad from Sigma Apple Pie."

2. Rager

A colossal party that is bigger than average.

"Bro what are you doing tonight? Roar Omega Roar is throwing a rager!"

3. Norts

A pair of athletic shorts, which usually can not even be seen under a size 7X T-shirt. The term originated from Nike shorts but is no longer limited to just Nike.

"Hey, Susan what are you wearing to class?"

"Probably norts and a t-shirt."

4. Pregame

When everyone is under twenty-one and unable to get drinks at the bar, so they drink before they go out.

"Wait for Helen, how are we supposed to get drinks at the bar when we aren't twenty-one yet?"

"Calm down Kim, we are pregaming at Chad's house before we go out."

5. Freshman Fifteen

A real disease when a first-time student goes off to college, gaining fifteen pounds during the first semester.

"Mom for some reason my shirt I got on the cruise this summer doesn't fit."

"It's probably from the freshman fifteen Billy."

6. Froomie

Someone who is not only your roommate but also your friend.

"Kelly I'm so glad I didn't get a random roommate, having you as a froomie is so much better."

7. Flaky

When someone is not reliable.

"Is Brian still going with you to the date party?"

"No, he canceled."

"Wow he is SO flaky"

8. Lit

Refers to a very fun time. Trust me, if this term is used to describe an event, you want to be there.

"Hey, Ryan how's the party?"

"Bro Timmy this place is lit you need to get here ASAP."

9. Keeping it 100

When someone keeps things real and is a very reliable person.

"Did you finish your homework?"

"Yes, Tommy helped me with it yesterday after class."

"Man, he's always keeping it 100"

10. GOAT

Refers to someone who is the "Greatest Of All Time."

"Brooke can I borrow an outfit, you always have cute clothes."

"Yes of course!"

"Awesome you're the GOAT!"

11. RT

An acronym for the word Retweet. Refers to the action on twitter of reposting something simply because it is relatable.

"I am SO tired"

"RT"

Although college students are learning better grammar than ever before, they sometimes choose to only express the new slang words. I mean, wouldn't you?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
