Singing: My Lifelong Hobby

My Secret Talent?

Singing: My Lifelong Hobby
Mary Scibilia

Besides having a passion for art and animation growing up, music was also a big part of my life. Like watching movies or playing video games, it also gave me many moments of happiness throughout life. There were many times my sister put me down when I sang cause she thought I was annoying, but I'm the type of person who doesn't let people get to me that easily. I've been singing pretty much for most of my life even though music is simply a hobby.

I discovered my love for singing when I was on a vacation to Florida and my friends wanted to sing karaoke by the pool. All of them were really shy and I ended up holding the microphone and singing most of the song. I was so nervous but at the end everyone was cheering and some younger girls even wanted to sing songs with me. It was a great feeling; like being a star for a little while.

I didn't think I would have a chance like that again until college orientation where a lot of my new friends encouraged me to sing. I'm not a professional by any means but I had the courage to try something new. I memorized the lyrics to a song and sang in front of part of my incoming college class. I was super terrified to sing on a stage like that; it's like a having to give a presentation with all of your nerves acting up, except two or three times worse. I asked many of my friends if I sounded nervous when I sang because I thought my voice was shaking and higher than normal. But everyone cheered and it really gave me a huge rush of excitement afterwards. I also got so much support from others coming up to me telling me that they loved my voice.

Music is really important to a lot of people. You see a lot of people wearing headphones and probably most of them enjoying their favorite tracks on their way to school or work, but for me I love to listen to music and use it to calm me down and clear my head when I'm stuck with a problem. Especially while I'm coding games and programs. I also love to sing; you just feel the tension and stress go away when you sing and it's overall a great experience. There's probably a lot of people out there that have great voices too- they just don't expose their hidden talent within them.

Ever since then I've sang a little here and there but nothing crazy like on stage, but I would be willing to take any opportunity I can. Since my primary focus is drawing and game design, I don't have much time for my hobby. So if I get the opportunity to sing I'll definitely take it and run with it .

Epic Creation Myths: Norse Origins Unveiled

What happened in the beginning, and how the heavens were set in motion.

The Norse Creation Myth

Now, I have the everlasting joy of explaining the Norse creation myth. To be honest, it can be a bit kooky, so talking about it is always fun. The entire cosmos is included in this creation myth, not just the earth but the sun and the moon as well. This will be a short retelling, a summary of the creation myth, somewhat like I did with Hermod's ride to Hel.

We all scroll through the radio stations in the car every once in a while, whether its because we lost signal to our favorite one or we are just bored with the same ol' songs every day. You know when you're going through and you hear a song where you're just like "I forgot this existed!" and before you know it, you're singing every word? Yeah, me too. Like, 95% of the time. If you're like me and LOVE some good throwback music, here's a list of songs from every genre that have gotten lost in time, but never truly forgotten.

Which is none other than beer; wonderful cold beer. With summer playing peek-a-boo around the corner while we finish up this semester, it's time to discuss the only important part of summer.
